Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML)
is a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In AML, the bone marrow makes many unformed cells called blasts. Blasts normally develop into white blood cells that fight infection. However, the blasts are abnormal in AML. They do not develop and cannot fight infections. The bone marrow may also make abnormal red blood cells and platelets. The number of abnormal cells (or leukemia cells) grows quickly. They crowd out the normal red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets the body needs.

Day 51

Wednesday.  The Williams family (my sister Becky), came into town last night.  We are lucky enough to have them here for a whole week!  They came to see Riley of course, but also wanted to help our family.  Becky said, "we are not here to be entertained... we are here to help".  They are awesome!!  Another perk is the instant fun with cousins!!  All of the kids are so excited to play with these cute Williams kiddos!!   It was great for Riley to see them.  Becky and Ben are very fun and so positive and encouraging.  We had a very fun visit! 

Labs today:
White blood cells: 0.6 (normal 4.5 - 13.5)
Red Blood cells: 10.4 (normal 13.5 - 17.5)
Platelets: 35 (normal 150 - 425) 
ANC:  12 ( < 500 = severely neutropenic)
